Transportation
We ensure seniors stay connected to the world around them. Our service provides rides to medical appointments, grocery shopping, church, social engagements, errands, and other outings. Our team provides not just transportation, but a supportive and comfortable journey, giving both seniors and their families peace of mind.
Compassionate Care
Our caretakers will observe our clients’ wellness needs, providing light medication management and assistance with self-care routines. We aim to support the physical and mental well-being of our seniors. Upon request, we will share a daily wellness report after visits, detailing the care provided and observations about their mental and physical state, meals, and more.
Household Assistance
Maintaining a living space becomes easier with our household assistance services. Our team helps with light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, and home organization. We assist seniors in creating environments that are clean, safe, and comfortable. By reducing their home chores, our seniors are able to focus more on enjoying life.
Companionship & Fulfillment
Loneliness can be a significant challenge for seniors. Our companionship services are designed to provide meaningful social interaction, mental stimulation, and emotional support. We’re committed to enhancing quality of life and promoting mental and emotional wellness. Whether it’s engaging in conversation, planting gardens, playing games, reading together, or helping pursue hobbies and interests.

About Us
We are Michael and Patrick Flaherty, lifelong members of the Southern Maine community. We see it as an honor to help keep seniors strong, independent, and in their homes.
After earning a business degree from the University of Southern Maine, Michael managed a hearing aid business and personally designed hearing solutions for seniors. He genuinely enjoyed caring, listening, and making his patients’ lives better.
Patrick has had a long and consistent background in supporting elders in the community. Decades of hands-on support to the senior community has allowed many seniors to remain in their home and empowered them to enjoy all the comforts of remaining in their immediate community. For years, he has supported seniors with transportation, in-home household assistance, compassion, and respectful care.
We look forward to being the people you can count on to assist you or your senior in staying safe and independent. We are privileged to be part of the team that helps keep our local seniors healthy and happy.

We are able to accept electronic payments by debit or credit card right on site. Checks are also accepted.
SMSS can accommodate seniors with a cane, walker, and partial wheelchair use (in and out of the wheelchair). At this time, SMSS cannot transport electric wheelchairs and full-time wheelchair clients.

SMSS covers Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough, Old Orchard Beach, Falmouth, Cumberland, Yarmouth, North Yarmouth, Westbrook, Gorham, and Windham. If you are outside of these key areas, please contact us and we can discuss possible accommodations.
